Inaugural Barrington arts event is May 24

Art doesn't have to be just a spectator sport.

For those whose enjoyment of either the visual or performing arts comes solely from the audience's perspective, an upcoming event in Barrington could change all that.

The new Barrington Community Arts Center's inaugural event, Art in the Park, will be held 1-6 p.m. May 24 at Citizens Park on Lake Zurich Road, just off Northwest Highway.

Approximately a dozen artists, including the well-known Nigerian-born, Chicago-based Abiola Akintola, will be there to display their work and explain their creative processes in a variety of disciplines.

The event will feature oil painters, stained glass artists, metal sculptors and the voices of poets and performers including the Barrington High School Madrigals.

A Children's Art Table will provide a venue for the youngest attendees to express their creativity.
