Aurora teen to be tried as adult for murder
An Aurora teenager charged with murder will be tried as an adult in connection with a June shooting that left one man dead and two others injured.
Christopher Contreras, 16, was arrested Saturday at his home and is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center. He was 15 at the time of the shooting, police said.
Police did not say how they were led to Contreras or if any weapons were recovered.
Aurora police believe Contreras shot 38-year-old Donald C. Franklin to death and injured two other men as they sat on Franklin's porch in the 200 block of North Kendall St. around 11:45 p.m. June 24. The two other men have recovered from their wounds, police said.
Authorities believe the shootings are gang-related and have not ruled out additional arrests.
Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to call Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Tipsters may remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward up to $5,000.
