Armed robber strikes Barrington Hills home
A Barrington Hills home was robbed by a gunman who fled the area around noon Friday, police said.
Officers received a call of the home invasion and armed robbery at a house on Brinker Road south of Lake-Cook Road at 12:02 p.m.
Residents reported being robbed at gunpoint by an Asian man in his mid-20s wearing blue jeans, a blue sweatshirt and a gray scarf covering his mouth and nose.
The man then used a vehicle taken from the home to flee the area. It was later found near Countryside School, triggering a temporary lockdown of the school.
Barrington Hills police were assisted in their search for the offender by Barrington police, Illinois State Police evidence technicians and an Elgin police K-9 unit.
Barrington Unit District 220 issued an instant alert to parents via phone and e-mail about the lockdown. An updated alert later announced the lockdown had been lifted because police believed the suspect had left the area.
A police presence remained at Countryside for the rest of the school day.
The alert broadcast on police radio described the offender as well as the fact that he had been driving a black Toyota Scion and was armed with a black Beretta.
