Admitted Lake in the Hills kleptomaniac charged with theft
An admitted kleptomaniac living in Lake in the Hills has been charged with felony retail theft after police said he hid more than $200 worth of items under his clothes Tuesday at the Home Depot store at Spring Hill Mall.
Sal Cribari, 52, of the 500 block of Mason Lane, was about to exit the door with the items, when a police officer stopped him, reports said. At that point, he apologized and said he is a kleptomaniac.
Wednesday during bond call proceedings, Cribari told Kane County Judge John Noverini he is getting treatment for his illness. "I do see a doctor; I do have kleptomania," he said.
Noverini set his bond at 10 percent of $5,000 said said he must also wear an electronic monitoring device on his ankle. "We need to know where you are," Noverini said.
"Apparently, you have a problem and this is the best thing for you," Noverini said. Cribari is due back in court June 4 at the Kane County Judicial Center. If found guilty of retail theft, he could face up to five years in prison.
