Briefs: Salvation Army provides flood relief
Elgin Emergency Management officials have asked the help of Salvation Army Disaster services for 39 local residents affected by the recent flood. The Salvation Army mobile feeding canteen and volunteers will assist affected residents with food, cleaning supplies and manual labor for those who need help. The Dundee Township Public Library is holding an Internet safety program, "Safety Net: Protecting Yourself Online," at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the West Dundee Public Safety Center II, 100 Carrington Drive. Protect yourself from unwanted intruders who lurk online and learn about products designed to keep them out. The program is free and space is limited. Charity car show
The 2nd Annual Charity Car and Motorcycle Show sponsored by Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez is planned for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the sheriff's office, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles. Public meeting on Randall Road improvements
A public meeting has been scheduled by the McHenry County Division of Transportation to discuss improvements to Randall Road between County Line Road and Ackman Road for 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Crystal Lake South High School, 1200 S. McHenry Ave. This is your chance to influence what improvements will be considered. The four alternatives will be on display and an audiovisual display will run every 30 minutes. Alternatives will include: access roads that may be eliminated; widening of rights-of-way and new turning lanes at intersections, which will affect current landscaping, parking lots and businesses; and the possibility of closing or reducing drivers' options at the various access points to the commercial areas along this route.
