Lake Villa teen charged with making bomb threat

An 18-year-old Lake Villa teen was arrested and charged for making a bomb threat at Lakes High School, officials said.

Mitchell Laird, of the 30000 Wildwood Lane in Lake Villa Township, was charged on May 5 with disorderly conduct by transmitting a bomb threat, a class 3 felony.

Lake Villa Police Chief Ron Roth said Laird allegedly called the Lakes High School voicemail at about 10 a.m. on April 20 saying a bomb was in the facility.

High school officials immediately contacted police, then searched the facility and surrounding properties extensively with police and fire personnel, Roth said.

After the bomb was not discovered, police conducted a follow up investigation where information was discovered that lead officers to Laird, Roth said. Laird later admitted that he had made the call from a pay phone in Lake Villa Township, Roth added.
