It's Happy Mother's Day, and don't forget to do your best to help your mom and other women who've been significant in your life relax and enjoy the big day.
If we're talking relaxation today and on the hazy, lazy summer days down the road, can you think of anything better to help than a swing?
Here's one for your deck, porch or patio. It holds up to three people who can swing in cushioned comfort under the shade of the awning.
But here's the big secret. It also folds down into a bed. I envision a place for a tired child to nap at a family gathering.
Or maybe when you have summer house guests you could give them your room and swing away all night, pretending it's you who is on vacation.
It costs $169 at Lowe's.
This artist works in glass and ceramics
Simon Pearce, designer of glass and ceramic items, will appear at Sawbridge Studios from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, May 14, in Chicago and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in Winnetka.
Pearce's artisans make decorative items that are also useful such as lamps, dinnerware, vases, and bowls. The smaller Stratton pedestal is $130, the larger one $160.
Pearce started glassblowing in Ireland, and his parents owned a pottery studio. Then he studied and traveled in Europe. He moved to the United States in 1981 and now operates factories in Vermont and Maryland. He also owns retail stores and restaurants.
His original Vermont workshop is famous for using hydroelectric power from the nearby river.

Is this as comfy as your recliner?
If you only think of recliners when you hear La-Z-Boy, you're missing something.
The company has introduced a line of "stationary" furniture. That means the sofas and chairs don't lean back at all.
The Premier Stationary Collection is very comfortable with several different densities of foam in the cushions, says the company.
Or you could even upgrade to a system that includes feathers, they said.
Many styles and fabrics are available, so maybe wives won't panic at the thought of putting one in their family rooms. This version of the Sloan is $899.
And while we're talking about guests visiting this summer, sectionals that include beds are available.
