Bond set for Hoffman Estates brothers

A Cook County judge set bond at $300,000 each for two Hoffman Estates brothers charged with delivery of a controlled substance.

Miguel and Alejandro Alvarado, who live on the 600 block of Salem Drive, appeared in a Rolling Meadows courtroom Wednesday following their arrest by Cook County Sheriff's police.

Police arrested Miguel Alvarado, 32, and Alejandro Alvarado, 26, Tuesday at a parking lot at 1901 E. Woodfield Road, Schaumburg, after they tried to sell cocaine to undercover officers, said Assistant State's Attorney Shilpa Patel.

Before the brothers' arrest, police met with them individually four times between April 21 and May 14, Patel. Three meetings took place at the defendants' home, she said, and one took place at a Hoffman Estates strip mall. The amount of cocaine the police confiscated from the first four transactions ranged from 7 grams to 28 grams, Patel said.

A conviction for possession of cocaine with intent to deliver typically carries a sentence of six to 30 years in prison. However, the last transaction involved 254 grams of cocaine, making it a super class X felony, said Patel. Super class X is a designation reserved for narcotics offenses. A conviction could result in a doubling of the sentence, meaning each man could face a maximum of 60 years in prison. They would have to serve 85 percent of the sentence.
