Woman rescued from Fox River in Carpentersville

An unidentified woman who fell into the Fox River in Carpentersville is safe today following a water rescue at about 10 p.m. Thursday.

According to a press release from the Carpentersville Fire Department, the 49-year-old female was crossing a trestle over the Fox River at the rear of Otto Engineering at 2 E. Main Street when she fell from the trestle into the river.

Reports show the woman was in distress after falling into the river and was swept away downstream.

About three minutes later, Police Officer Sean Bennet heard the woman calling for help and threw a rescue disk - a floatation disk with a rope - to the victim.

The victim was able to grab onto the disk and Bennet was able to pull the woman to shore with the help of other police and fire officials.

The victim was conscious and alert, but was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
