Senator deceives voters and their will
Senator Matt Murphy, a Republican from Palatine, has flip-flopped between principles when it suits his political goals.
The reason more than 50 percent of voters say they don't vote in primary elections, is because they don't want to declare their political party affiliations, as currently required under Illinois law.
Sen. Murphy voted against SB 1666 and killed any chance to support the will of the voters (taxpayers) in a primary election. SB1666 would have allowed voters to choose the best candidate for each office, regardless of party affiliation. If I wanted to choose a Republican for one, and a Democrat for another because I believe that they would be the best candidate for the job, Matt Murphy said 'no' to my choice. Matt Murphy says allowing this will increase the cost of elections. By the way, Matt Murphy also supported spending taxpayer dollars funding a special election to fill President Obama's U.S. Senate position. Does he support empowering the voters, or doesn't he?
He sounds like he wants to have it both ways ... or maybe sounds as if he only wants some people, (his people) to show up and vote. Republican State Sen. Larry Bomke of Springfield said "Passage of this bill is a good start in cleaning up corruption in politics that Illinois has become renowned for."
Matt Murphy should be voting to support us, the voters (taxpayers), and empowering us to choose better people who would like to govern. Instead he votes to limit my choices, and enable the current corrupt status quo to continue.
