Driver in 80s strikes, kills mother, 2 children

Authorities say a driver in his 80s struck and killed a mother and her two small children as they crossed a Chicago street.

Police spokeswoman JoAnn Taylor says the accident Saturday afternoon on the North Side also injured a third child. Taylor said 87-year-old George Miller of Chicago has been cited in the crash.

Fire Department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez says the driver was also injured. He's in the hospital in serious condition.

Rodriguez says the injured child is around ten years old and is hospitalized in fair condition.

Authorities didn't have details on what caused the accident. They also didn't release the names of those involved and didn't have their exact ages. Taylor says the mother was in her 30s and the children who died were nine years old and seven years old.
