CLC displays trove of art

Did you realize that the College of Lake County has a 2,500-square-foot art gallery located on the Grayslake campus that features Illinois artists?

The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art is a resource for artists and Lake County residents alike. Here's some information about what's offered there:

• The gallery was established by the College of Lake County Foundation in 1981 and features tours and educational programs in conjunction with its exhibitions.

• The permanent collection features 400 works of art, from not only Illinois artists, but nationally -- and internationally -- recognized artists.

• "Passages," created by Steve Waldeck and featuring sound and music composed by Peter Gena, is a new addition to the gallery's permanent collection.

The interactive artwork is on the first floor of the technology building. Walking along the frames of the artwork will trigger sounds of birds, a train and a jet flying overhead.

• "Survey," an exhibition by Chicago artist Carrie Iverson, runs through April 6. Iverson is a printmaker, painter and glass artist.

• A juried exhibit featuring works by current art students at CLC will be presented in April and May.

• You can also download talks given by artists who are exhibiting their works at the gallery. Check out the Web site at gallery.clcillinois.edu and click on "Gallery Talk Podcasts."

• The ARTcetera Sales and Rental Gallery is located right next to the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art (just inside the main glass doors of the library). You can buy work by Lake County artists, including glass, fiber, painting, photography, sculpture and jewelry.

• The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

During spring break, March 24-30, the gallery will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will be closed March 23, 29 and 30.

The gallery is located in the Learning Resource Center at CLC, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. The The C-Wing entrance is the easiest access.
