Tax Day rally:
The Conservative Catholic Women's League - Kane County is sponsoring the Kane County Taxpayer Tea Party from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kane County Government Center plaza, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva. State Sen. Chris Lauzen, an Aurora Republican, and state Rep. Timothy Schmitz, a Batavia Republican, are scheduled to speak. It is part of Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party, and will address government bailouts, spending and taxes. For more information go to ccwl-kanecounty.blogspot.com.
Geneva bicycling planning:
The City of Geneva's Strategic Plan Advisory Committee has its annual Town Meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third Street. The Bike and Pedestrian subcommittee will conduct a forum on "Biking and Walking in Geneva." The Kane County Child Advocacy Center seeks sponsors for a May 17 walk to raise money for groups that investigate cases of sexual and physical abuse against children. The 10-mile Champions for Children Walk will take place in Chicago. Gov. Pat Quinn is the scheduled grand marshal. To sponsor a local walker or make a donation/pledge, call (630) 208-5160.
ECC lauded for extension:
Elgin Community College is a co-recipient of the Project of the Year from the American Public Works Association's Chicago Metropolitan Chapter for the Spartan Drive extension project. ECC, along with the City of Elgin and project engineer Crawford, Murphy and Tilly Inc., received the award March 19. The 0.62-mile extension, which consists of two lanes and a bicycle trail, opened to traffic Aug. 15 and connects the ECC main campus with Randall Road. The City of Elgin shared the funding for the project.
