Low-speed pursuit ends in Aurora; no charges yet
An elderly man led Plainfield police on a low-speed pursuit that required assistance from Aurora and Naperville police early Sunday, authorities said.
The chase started about 12:45 a.m. at Route 59 and 135th Street. Plainfield police saw the man driving a 1999 Jaguar disobeying traffic laws. Two units followed the vehicle north on Route 59 for about nine miles, Plainfield Police Sgt. Ron Mikos said.
The man, who drove between 35 and 40 mph, ran a couple red lights and ignored officers' attempts to pull him over.
Aurora police eventually laid tire-deflating stop sticks near New York St. around 1:15 a.m., police said.
Mikos said the man, who was confused and disoriented, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. Charges are pending review.
Naperville police helped block off intersections so that cross traffic wouldn't interfere.
