Suspect in church killing gets new judge
EDWARDSVILLE -- A man accused of gunning down a pastor mid-sermon inside a Maryville church last month is getting a new judge on his case.
Madison County Chief Criminal Judge Charles Romani has reassigned 27-year-old Terry Sedlacek's case to Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli.
Sedlacek is charged with first-degree murder in the March 8 killing of Pastor Fred Winters at the First Baptist Church of Maryville. He's also charged with felony battery for injuring two members of the congregation who subdued him.
During a recent court appearance, Sedlacek said he wanted to plead guilty, but a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He's jailed without bond in Edwardsville.
Tognarelli is the third judge assigned to the case.
