Inside and out
It's sophisticated and helps find cure
A classy touch of pink will enliven your decor and fight breast cancer.
To celebrate October as breast cancer awareness month, Design Within Reach and Knoll have combined to create 10 pink leather benches.
Originally made in the 1950s, the classic and modern benches are valued at $3,463 each.
On Oct. 25, they will be auctioned at Design Within Reach stores around the country. The Chicago event will be at 7 p.m. at Kingsbury Street and North Avenue.
One bench will be sold online starting Tuesday and ending Oct. 25.
Proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Traditional Home honors volunteers
Traditional Home magazine is honoring a Glenview woman for her work fighting malnutrition in Guatemala.
Sandy Haggart is one of five featured in the November Classic Woman issue.
The organization she founded is called Feed the Dream.
Working with the local people is an important part of the program. Community gardens and helping farmers diversify their crops are examples of the work that the organization does in 12 villages.
Haggart made several trips to the country as a translator on medical missions. Her ties to Guatemala became tighter when her daughter adopted Sarita.
Does your decor need a seasonal lift?
It's time to bring harvest colors -- oranges, reds, greens, yellows and browns -- into your home.
That's the word from Chris Madden, a designer and author who had her own HGTV show.
We like these leaf plates that she designed for JC Penney stores.
Priced at $16, they can be coasters or used for serving hors d'oeuvres or dessert.
Madden's JCP Home accessories also include table runners and tablecloths for more formal looks and place mats when you want to be informal.
If you don't have a tray to serve drinks or hold mail, check out the $50 wooden one with leaf decor in her collection. This is what you need for the trick of expanding an upholstered ottoman into extra "table space."
The collection also features dinnerware in solid colors, not to mention acorn salt and pepper shakers and covered pumpkin soup bowls.
