St. Charles police hunt bank robber

St. Charles police Friday were searching for an armed robber who held up a bank inside the Jewel-Osco store on Kirk Road.

No one was hurt in the incident, which was reported at 9 a.m. at TCF Bank. Police said a man presented a note to a teller demanding money, then displayed a handgun in his waistband.

The robber fled in a gray or silver vehicle before police arrived. He was described as black, 230 to 240 pounds, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, and in his 30s. The man wore a black baseball cap, a gray hooded sweatshirt with a zipper, a black T-shirt, black shoes and black utility pants, witnesses told police.

Authorities said they were analyzing evidence, including a video recording from the bank. Officials at the bank and grocery store declined to comment. Police did not say how much money was taken.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Det. Sgt. Jerry Gatlin at (630) 443-3739 or the FBI at (630) 505-5755.
