Ryan, Lakes edge Zion-Benton
Lakes' baseball team manufactured a late rally to edge Zion-Benton 4-3 on Thursday.
With Lakes trailing 3-1 in the top of the seventh, Travis Vanderwall (2-for-3) led off with a single. After a strikeout, sophomore Paul Kukulka beat out an infield single, and wild pitch allowed the runners to advance to second and third.
Ryan Noon then doubled in both runners to tie the game at 3-3. Noon took third on the throw to home and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly to right field by starting pitcher Tim Ryan.
Ryan struck out the side in the bottom of the inning. He finished with 11 strikeouts, while allowing 5 hits and walking a pair.
Warren 3, Grayslake Central 1: The Blue Devils got home runs from Kevin Colburn and Ryan Economos, and Chad Johnson struck out six batters over 5 innings of 4-hit ball.
Zack Schneider nailed down his third save with 2 shutout innings. He fanned three.
Colburn and Sean Kennedy were both 2-for-3 for Warren (4-3).
Kurt Schmidt was 2-for-3 for Grayslake Central (6-3), while Mike Gentile had a double.
Lake Zurich 12, Grayslake North 3: Mike Miller went 4-for-4 with a double and 5 RBI to lead a 15-hit attack for the Bears.
Winning pitcher Tanner Witt hit a 3-run homer and also singled. Lake Zurich (5-5-1) also got 2 hits apiece from Sam Aslan (double), Chas Evans and Ricky Erickson (double, 2 RBI).
Witt pitched 4 innings, allowing 3 runs, none of which were earned.
