Former home of gangster up for sale

A home in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood is on the market at a price that supposedly reflects it was once owned by the family of gangster Al Capone.

The house on South Prairie Avenue is for sale for $450,000, considerably more than similar homes in the working-class neighborhood.

Records show the Capones bought the home for $5,500 in 1923 after moving from New York. It features ornate tile work, brick exterior and an underground cellar.

Capone famously barricaded himself inside in December 1927 while being sought by police. The house has had two owners since Capone's mother died in 1952.

The house is owned by 71-year-old Barbara Hogsette, who is selling it so she can move to California. Realtor Patrice Brazil says she's looking for buyers interested in the historical value of the home.
