Attorney Allan Ackerman may join Blagojevich legal team

Ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich may add veteran criminal defense attorney Allan A. Ackerman to his team.

Ackerman told The Associated Press on Monday that he's been "asked to participate" in Blagojevich's defense against federal criminal corruption charges.

But Ackerman says he hasn't decided whether to join the legal team, and may not for a week to 10 days.

The attorney has represented a number of organized crime figures among many other clients.

He calls Blagojevich's case "complex" and says the sheer volume of documents collected by the government over years of investigation will keep lawyers busy.

The former governor has pleaded not guilty to charges that include allegations he tried to auction off President Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat.
