Enter Congressional art contest

The office of Rep. Bill Foster is accepting submissions from area high school students for entry into the annual Congressional Art Competition, now in its 28th year.

"This competition is a fantastic opportunity to recognize our talented young artists," Foster said. "I encourage any interested high school student to submit a piece of artwork in the competition for the chance to represent the 14th District in the U.S. Capitol."

The Congressional Art Competition, this year titled an "Artistic Discovery," is an annual, nationwide art competition. The contest provides members of Congress with an opportunity to showcase the talents of their creative high school constituents and acknowledge gifted young artists.

The winning entry will be sent to Washington, D.C., where it will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol Building, a well-traveled corridor, where hundreds of people each day view. The winning artist will also receive airfare and an invitation to attend a national reception in Washington, D.C. honoring award recipients from across the country. Additionally, the second- to fourth-place entries will be displayed on the walls of Foster's Washington D.C., Batavia and Dixon offices.

High school students may submit artwork to the competition by delivering their entries to Foster's Batavia office, 27 N. River St. during normal business hours.

Entries must be received by the close of business on April 20. Entries are limited to one per student, and entries are not considered complete until Foster's office receives both the piece of artwork and a student information release form.
