Batavia recreation forum:
The Batavia Park District invites the public to discuss ideas about recreation in Batavia at 7 tonight at the Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St. Call (630) 879-5235 or visit bataviaparks.org.
New high school principal:
Lisa Hichens, the assistant principal for teaching and learning at Batavia High School, was promoted Tuesday night by the school board. She will replace principal Doug Drexler, who is moving to a job in the district's administrative office. Hichens, who lives in Naperville, will receive a doctorate in education in May from Aurora University. She began teaching high school mathematics in 1990, and was hired to teach at Batavia High in 1994. Since then, she has served as the Dean of Students, and has been an assistant principal for four years.
Law school scholarships:
The Kane County Bar Association seeks applicants for its annual scholarship program for area law students. In years past, the association has awarded at least two $1,000 scholarships to students who either reside in Kane County themselves or whose parents live in Kane County. District plans garage sale:
The Fox Valley Park District will hold a Communitywide Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Prisco Community Center parking lot, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora. Interested sellers must register with the district. The fee is $30 for district residents and $45 for others. All proceeds from rental space will go toward youth community outreach programs. Geneva engineer departs:
Jason Elias, Geneva's city engineer and assistant director of public works, is taking a job as public works director in Lisle, Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns announced this week. Elias, who lives in Lombard, has worked for Geneva since January 2007.
Fay's BBQ at church:
Calvary Episcopal Church will have a Fay's BBQ fundraiser from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 per person for chicken, pork chops or combination dinners.
