Don't need one-issue candidates
My late husband was a trustee on the Carol Stream Library board for many years. He had reservations about constructing a new library because he felt the voters were not ready to consider that option. Where he would have stood on this issue after hearing all the arguments - pro and con - I cannot say, but he knew and worked with many of the members of the current board. He would have no reservations about the fact that they are dedicated, honest people committed to their community. The issue of the referendum is no longer an issue since the board has indicated they will not consider it for the next 10 years. In reviewing the published candidate profiles, the four incumbent nominees are the only candidates clearly articulating a broad view of the library's future. The library is too valuable a community resource to leave in the hands of "one issue" candidates. I will be voting for Tom Arends, Rob Douglas, Mary Hudspeath, and Leslie Shambo because I trust them to make the best decisions with the resources the community provides.
