Man found dead in lake where sister drowned

LITCHFIELD -- A Montgomery County lake from which divers have pulled the body of a 49-year-old man was the same place where his sister drowned 14 years earlier.

The Litchfield Fire Department says the body of Mark Mansholt of Staunton was found Thursday in Lake Lou Yaeger by crews using sonar.

Officials say witnesses saw Mansholt early Wednesday on his boat, but authorities were later notified after his boat was spotted running in circles in the water with no one aboard.

Mansholt was a brother of Illinois State Police Special Agent Terry Mansholt, who was 33 when she drowned in the lake in 1995 when she fell through a thin sheet of ice trying to rescue her two dogs.

Litchfield is about 40 miles south of Springfield.
