Fire vehicle strikes child in Bartlett

An 11-year-old bicycle rider suffered minor injuries this afternoon after he was struck by a Bartlett Fire Protection District SUV, police said. Paramedics took the child to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield with minor injuries, Bartlett police Sgt. Michael McGuigan said. No tickets were issued. The SUV driver, only identified as a fire protection district employee, didn't have enough time to avoid the accident, McGuigan said, as the child failed to yield at a T-intersection before entering the street, he added. The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. The bicyclist was riding east near Schick Road and crossed in front of the southbound SUV, which was heading south on Woodland Hills Drive, McGuigan said. The fire protection district employee was heading home at the time, McGuigan added.
