Frank Soto, Bensenville
So what's your new mayor like? The Daily Herald asked our new mayors and village presidents a few 'get to know you' questions Wednesday, the day after voters chose them to lead their communities.
Q. Who is your political role model?
A. In terms of his philosophy of hope and change, President Barack Obama would be up there. I'd also have to say Lincoln, for also being a lawyer, and for the things he stood for and how he inspired people.
Q. What is the first thing you want to change?
A. He plans an independent forensic audit of village finances to determine the fiscal shape of the village and to start rebuilding the concept of public service in town, beginning with hosting either a festival or open house to reach out to residents and business owners.
Q. What is your favorite movie?
A. "Forrest Gump." It's an inspirational story. Everyone told him he couldn't do certain things, and only he and his mother believed he could. He overcame so many obstacles but remained very humble in everything he did. He was a person who means what he says and says what he means.
Q. How did you celebrate?
A. We had a postelection party in Bensenville. I wanted to have it for all the people in town - the residents who worked so hard on the campaign and to thank them for their support.
Q. What's the last good book you read?
A. He's read a lot fitness/nutrition books lately but, a recent reread of Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" reminded him the classic was a poignant, enjoyable book.
Q. Cubs or Sox?
A. The Cubs, but "I'm one of those people who wouldn't root against the Sox - unless they were playing against the Cubs." At home, though, he's outnumbered. Two of his three kids are White Sox fans.
