Beat it
The English Beat is making one of the more welcome rock comebacks of recent years. The British reggae-ska group of the early '80s never got the attention it deserved the first time around with albums like "Wha'ppen?"
The English Beat plays at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn, Chicago. Tickets to the 17-and-older show are $20, available at the box office.
Beyond folk
Bonnie Koloc's musical career goes back 40 years to the early days of Chicago's folk revival, but since then she's gradually, consistently expanded her range to take on blues and jazz. She plays an intimate Good Friday show at FitzGerald's.
Bonnie Koloc plays at 8:30 p.m. today at FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd., Berwyn. Tickets are $20, available by calling FitzGerald's at (708) 788-2118 or through TicketWeb at (866) 468-3401 or at ticketweb.com.
