Burlington C's Scott finishes off week with perfect game
Not many pitchers have weeks like the one Burlington Central senior Mackenzie Scott concluded on Saturday.
On the heels of a no-hitter and a 1-hitter, as well as slugging a grand slam home run earlier in the week, Scott tossed yet another no-hitter - this one a six-inning perfect game - on Saturday as the Rockets downed Princeton in Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader on Rocket Hill.
Scott then threw 4 more innings of hitless softball in Game 2 as BC completed the 10-0, 6-1 sweep to run their winning streak to 5 straight.
For the week Scott (5-1) struck out 54 batters in 22 innings, including a total of 27 on Saturday, 16 in Game 1 and 11 more in the nightcap.
"She's pitching the way she knows how to pitch and we're playing much better," said BC coach Scot Sutherland. "Mac just had a heck of a week."
In Saturday's opener, senior Kayla Oranger led the BC offense by going 2-for-2 with 3 runs scored and 3 more stolen bases. Brittany Priest scored 2 runs, Sam Gruner had a double, Lindsay Lange stroked a triple and Ashley Scheffler drove in 2 runs. Haley Albamonte added a double and 2 RBI as well.
In Game 2, Jet Kein relieved Scott and allowed just 1 run on 3 hits to earn the save.
The Burlington offense was led by Scheffler, who was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI. Lange and Gruner also drove in runs and Priest was 2-for-3.
The Rockets (9-3) return to action Monday when they host North Boone in Big Northern East action.
