Woman accused of shooting boyfriend's dog

GRANITE CITY -- A southwestern Illinois woman is jailed on charges that she shot a boyfriend's dog that later had to be euthanized.

Madison County prosecutors on Monday charged 51-year-old Sofia Lynn with aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated cruelty of an animal. Both counts are felonies.

Granite City's assistant police chief, Jeff Connor, says officers responded to the home shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday and were met by a man who said his girlfriend fired a weapon inside the house and hit the man's pit bull.

Tactical units were brought in, but the woman emerged peacefully from the house more than three hours later.

Lynn is jailed in Edwardsville on $75,000 bond.
