Union law will not help middle class
Mr. Nauyalis's response regarding the Employee Free Choice Act (sponsored by Sens. Durbin and Kennedy) is something you'd expect from a union organizer. Most of the comments made about the employers are older than the soil and can be debated both ways. He stated that the act can restore the middle class.
The middle class, way back when, was largely comprised of skilled/semi-skilled industrial workers. Those companies, and jobs, have been long gone and will never return. Most employees today want to be individually judged on their own performances, rather than as part of a bargaining unit. However, as small as organized labor has become, it still has huge political clout. In addition to the two senators mentioned above, Vice President Joe Biden recently attended a closed-door meeting at the AFL-CIO convention in Miami. News of that meeting even being held, was conveniently omitted/ignored by the media.
The most serious issue, however, is the elimination of any secret ballot. Whether it be for President, or for a member of a PTA board, Americans have always had the right to vote by secret ballot. To do away with this right, regardless of any circumstabnces, can set an unwanted precedent in the years ahead. This bill should not be passed.
