Coroner: 1 of 2 boys found was stabbed
LEROY -- The Putnam County coroner says the younger of two central Illinois brothers found dead in their father's car was stabbed and bottles of prescription drugs were found near the other.
Coroner Robert Cofoid says it may take three weeks for toxicology tests to confirm how 9-year-old Duncan Leichtenberg and his 7-year-old brother, Jack, died.
The boys were found dead in their father Michael Connolly's car Sunday night in rural Putnam County. They had been missing since March 8.
Cofoid said Friday that Connolly hung himself. Authorities say Connolly is believed to have killed his sons.
Earlier in the day a funeral was held for the boys in LeRoy, where they lived.
The family had the boys' last names changed from Connolly to their mother's name this week.
