Scouting UIC @ Akron
Illinois-Chicago (7-4) at Akron (9-2)
When: 6 p.m. at Rhodes Arena
Radio: WIND 560-AM
The skinny: If UIC really wants to prove this could be a special year, then a win tonight would be the perfect way to do it. While the Flames enter with a five-game winning streak, the Zips have won four in a row overall and 16 straight on their home court. Akron has a well-balanced group led by 6-foot-6, 235-pound power forward Jeremiah Wood (13.7 ppg, 9.6 rpg) and Ohio State transfer Nick Dials (12.6 ppg, 3.5 apg). The Flames' Josh Mayo (19.0 ppg, 40 3-pointers) continues to lead the Horizon League in scoring and 3-point accuracy (60.6 percent). One potential thing in the Flames' favor? They've played a much tougher schedule than the Zips, whose slate ranks among the nation's 15 easiest by any computerized measure.
