UIC 60, Loyola 55

Josh Mayo had 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as Illinois-Chicago held on for a 60-55 Horizon League victory over Loyola on Saturday night at the Gentile Center.

Mayo, who entered the game as the nation's leading 3-point shooter, made only 3 of 8 shots from behind the arc. In the first half, his only points were a 3-pointer with 47 seconds left.

Illinois-Chicago (13-10, 7-5) led 28-17 at halftime, but Loyola (9-15, 5-8) came back, led by Leon Young, who had 12 points off the bench. Loyola twice pulled within 3 points, the last time when Andy Polka tipped in a rebound to cut UIC's margin to 50-47 with 3:08 left.

Spencer Stewart hit a 3-pointer, and the Flames made 7 of 8 free-throw attempts in the final 1:09 to keep its margin.

Karl White Jr. had 11 points for the Flames, while Scott VanderMeer had 14 rebounds. Young was the only Rambler to score in double figures.

UIC finished with 39 percent shooting, hitting 21 of 54 attempts, while Loyola shot 35 percent (23 of 65).
