Police shoot man; woman's body inside apartment

O'FALLON -- Court records show an armed man shot dead by police at a southwestern Illinois apartment complex and his estranged wife whose body was found inside the unit had years of marital trouble.

Authorities on Tuesday identified the dead as 44-year-old James Jenkins of East St. Louis and 40-year-old Adrinne Jenkins of O'Fallon.

Illinois State Police say officers dispatched to a reported burglary in O'Fallon late Monday killed James Jenkins when he met them at the door and reportedly refused to drop his weapon.

St. Clair County court records show that Adrinne Jenkins last month filed for divorce for the third time since 1992, and the couple had been living separately since mid-2006.

The couple were married in 1989 and have a teenage daughter.
