South Elgin man charged with selling gun to undercover cops
A 23-year-old South Elgin man faces a laundry list of felony gun charges after he sold a semiautomatic gun to undercover police officers in the village, police said.
Jason Bremer, of the 700 block of North LaFox Street, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful sale of a firearm and possession of a defaced firearm - the gun's serial number had been rubbed off.
Kane County Judge John Noverini on Thursday morning set Bremer's bond at 10 percent of $150,000.
Bremer was unable to post bond and was transported to the Kane County jail. He is due in court April 24 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
According to court records, Bremer on March 31 collected $100 after delivering an Astra .25-caliber gun to two undercover police officers.
Records say Bremer did not show the officers a Firearm Owner's Identification card before or during the transaction and in a later interview with police, Bremer admitted he met with the undercover officers and sold the gun to them, court records said.
Bremer, on parole for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and aggravated possession of between two and five firearms, faces between three and seven years in prison if convicted of the most serious charge.
