Cops: Bensenville teen impersonated detective

A 16-year-old Bensenville boy tried to steal a boat stored at River and Oakton Auto Care, 1605 S. River Road, Des Plaines, by telling the employees he was a Chicago police detective and the boat had been reported stolen, police said.

An off-duty Des Plaines officer was in the shop and stopped the teen when he could not convince the employees of his story last Tuesday.

He was charged with aggravated false impersonation of a peace officer and attempted theft, reports said.
