Ex-Chicago alderman Kenner dies at 76
Tyrone Kenner, a former Chicago alderman convicted of taking bribes, has died at age 76.
Kenner's daughter, Renee Kenner-Clay, says he died of complications from diabetes Monday at a hospital in the Chicago suburb of Evergreen Park.
Kenner was a Chicago police officer before a successful run in 1971 for alderman of a South Side ward. In 1983, a federal grand jury indicted him on charges of taking bribes in exchange for getting people jobs with the Cook County sheriff's office.
Kenner was also convicted on obstruction of justice charges for trying to influence witnesses. He served 20 months of a 5-year prison sentence.
Kenner later made unsuccessful runs in 1991 and 1995 to reclaim his seat from Alderwoman Dorothy Tillman. He is survived by Kenner-Clay and five other children.
