Two Batavia restaurants cited for selling alcohol to minors

A restaurant in Batavia that specifically caters to children was busted for serving alcohol to minors.

Chuck E. Cheese at 511 N. Randall Road was cited by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission and Batavia Police for selling liquor to an under-aged minor during an undercover sting operation held earlier this month, liquor commission officials said.

El Taco Grande at 1890 Mill St. - also in Batavia - was also charged during the same sting operation, liquor commission officials said.

Officials did not say how old the person was who bought alcohol at Chuck E. Cheese or El Taco Grande.

The state routinely performs sting operation where high school and college students are sent in to stores to purchase alcohol to make sure they are not selling alcohol to anyone under the age of 21.

A restaurant, bar or liquor store can be fined and have its liquor license suspended or revoked for selling to minors.
