South Elgin celebrates Arbor Day
On behalf of the citizens of South Elgin, the president and board of trustees take tribute in joining towns across the U.S. in celebrating and proclaim Friday, April 24 as National Arbor Day in the village of South Elgin.
The village recognizes the trees they plant and preserve benefit the whole world. They soon stretch up toward the sun giving shelter, shade, comfort, joy, beauty, and relief. They trap dust, diminish smog, and reduce traffic noise. They produce oxygen and moderate the temperature. They provide a home for wildlife. By removing carbon dioxide from the air, trees help fight the greenhouse effect and the resulting drought and heat waves.
As members of The National Arbor Day Foundation and in an effort to improve the quality of life, the village invites you to join in the celebration.
A Swamp White Oak will be planted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Clinton Elementary School, 770 Mill St., South Elgin. Residents are welcome to attend.
