Champaign man found dead at food plant

CHAMPAIGN -- A 46-year-old Champaign man has been found dead at a soon-to-close food plant.

Champaign Fire Department spokeswoman Dena Schumacher says a co-worker found Kurt Davis around 7 a.m. Wednesday in an empty rail car at the ACH Food Plant on the northwest side of the city.

Schumacher says Davis was preparing the car to be loaded with vegetable oil.

Nick Walters of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration says Davis' death is under investigation.

Sarah Blankenship is vice president of human resources for ACH Food Companies, Inc. She says the company is working with authorities.

The plant employs about 250 people and makes cooking oil and nondairy creamer. It is scheduled to close later this year.
