Electric short causes Gurnee fire

An electrical short resulted in a fire Friday that caused $8,000 damage to a Gurnee home.

A resident of a single-family home on the 7600 block of Gamay Court, smelled smoke and called for help. Firefighters arrived about 7:20 p.m. to find a fire in a wall on the lower floor.

Firefighters had to remove a portion of the wall to get at the source, according to Lt. John Skillman. The family was taken from the home without incident but the home was temporarily uninhabitable, he said.
