'TCM Greatest' series continues with horror, sci-fi
"TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection"
In February, Warner Home Video and Turner Classics started releasing collections of films for movie lovers. The initial installment of films consisted of romantic dramas, romantic comedies and Best Picture winners. Other genres covered over the last few months included musicals, westerns, war films and much more.
There are three new four-film collections in the latest release:
"Murder Mysteries" - "The Big Sleep" with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, "Dial M for Murder" with Grace Kelly and Ray Milland, "The Maltese Falcon" with Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre and "The Postman Always Rings Twice" with Lana Turner and John Garfield.
"Sci-Fi" - "2001 A Space Odyssey" with Keir Dullea, "Forbidden Planet" with Walter Pidgeon and Anne Francis, "Soylent Green" with Charlton Heston and "Time Machine" with Rod Taylor.
"Horror" - "The Haunting" with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom, "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde with Spencer Tracy and Ingrid Bergman, "House of Wax" with Vincent Price and the unique film "Freaks."
"Unwigged & Unplugged"
In 1984, fans around the world discovered Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls who performed as "Spinal Tap." The film became a cult classic and starred Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer. The trio was reincarnated as The Folksmen for the film "A Mighty Wind."
The "Unwigged and Unplugged" concert captures the three friends in a two-hour performance featuring songs from "This is Spinal Tap," the studio album "Break Like The Wind" and "A Mighty Wind."
There are lots of surprises and everyone will be entertained by the chemistry and the good times felt by those involved with the project. The group traveled throughout the country and this concert was filmed at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee.
"How Bruce Lee Changed The World"
Bruce Lee died much too young at 32 in 1973.
He had no idea what an influence he was then and how his influence would still be felt today. This documentary is broken up in various segments that feature the martial arts superstar in films and explore how his philosophy and training helped shape the world of weight training, body building and mixed martial arts. There are wonderful interviews throughout, and we get to see how Lee fought stereotypes, and how he opened the door for Asian actors in Hollywood. There is going to be a museum and park in China in his honor, and the beauty of this documentary is that it really covers his life and his legacy.
"Terry Fator Live From Las Vegas"
Terry Fator was seen by millions of people as the winner of "America's Got Talent." He has the wonderful ability to combine the art of ventriloquism with celebrity impressions of a wide range of singers, including Louis Armstrong, Marvin Gaye, Cher, Justin Timberlake, Elvis, Garth Brooks and many more. The whole family will enjoy this funny and entertaining show from the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.
