Age must not be factor in hiring
I am a 58-year-old female, divorced, and unemployed since July 2008. I was let go from a near six-figure job because of the economy. I have exhausted my savings and am, as we speak, unable to pay my mortgage and car payment.
I have sent close to 100 resumes out and today was the icing on the cake. I received a rejection letter for employment at Target.
They were sorry but they would keep my application in case an opportunity arose. Their Web site is advertising for jobs. So what is my problem? This is not a reflection on anybody working there now.
I could understand if they weren't advertising for help. I hold three brokerage licenses and can't even get a job. I've got to believe it's because of my age and that gets me angry.
I don't have any health insurance but am in good health and exercise daily. I do crossword puzzles so it can't be my brain. I can't even get my foot in ANY door. This is a sorry world if people my age can't get a job. I have many years of employment left in me. Look at CEO's across the world. Many are well over 60.
