Teen dies while playing softball
A 14-year-old Chicago Public School student died after falling on a softball while playing with his school's team during their first game of the season.
According to teammates, Maurice Davenport fell on the softball after catching it. He asked for water then collapsed. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn on Wednesday, where he was pronounced dead.
Davenport attended Garrett A. Morgan Elementary School, which had just organized a softball team.
Booker Hatcher, an assistant coach at Bowen High School, said Davenport was also Morgan's best football player, and was looking forward to playing football at Bowen.
