Business owner faces theft charge
A part-owner of a South Elgin business has been charged with the theft of cash from the company, police said Thursday.
Dennis Head, 38, of 9N209 Muirhead Road, Elgin, was charged with felony theft of between $300 and $10,000 from Head Inc., 201 N. Center St., South Elgin, according to court records.
The theft occurred between Jan. 3 and Sept. 29 of this year, police said. If Head is convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
According to the original charge, Dennis Head was accused of taking a total of $28,571.63 in cash and items from Head Inc., but he returned several unidentified items to the company and the amount has been reduced, police said.
A brother and an uncle are also listed as owners of the company, which grinds down steel rods for use in business machines.
"Dennis Head is a part owner of Head Inc. and had access to the company's financial accounts," said Todd Cohen, his attorney. "This is a family squabble that started when he filed a workman's compensation claim against the company."
Kane County Judge Allen Cargerman set bond at $80,000.
Head remained in the Kane County jail Thursday evening and his next court date is on Nov. 8 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
