Make a difference to pets in peril

Thank you for reporting a heartbreaking story ("Life and Death"), but most importantly, a true one. There are so many things we can do to help these shelters with the courageous work they do. Of course, donate money, supplies, adopt pets from shelters not stores, volunteer your time, get the word out.

Sites such as www.petfinders.com has a complete listing of all Illinois shelters, rescues and county pounds with wonderful dogs and cats just waiting for a good home. The site mentioned in the story, www.illlinoisanimalrescue.org provides great information concerning the transport of the pets rescued and ones awaiting. Another great site, www.dogsindanger.com, lists dogs that will be euthanized if not adopted. If a person is looking for a particular breed, www.chicagolandtails.org has a complete listing of breed rescue groups.

As stated by the great Albert Schweitzer, "Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living creatures, man himself will not find peace." Every person has the ability to make a difference.
