Lake Zurich gets 18 hits against Z-B

Lake Zurich's softball team wore its hitting shoes.

The Bears pounded out 18 hits in a 9-2 win over visiting Zion-Benton in North Suburban Lake Division action Tuesday.

Lake Zurich (9-2) got 3-for-4 performances at the plate from Paige Goldberg (double), Erin Sweeney (3 RBI), Coryn Schmit (double, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Kaitlin Beaver (double, 2 RBI) and Kelli Blume (RBI).

Alex Block had a single and 2 runs scored, while Amanda Orchard added a double.

Megan Mattera (6-1) threw a complete-game 2-hitter, striking out six and walking five.

Cary-Grove 4, Grayslake North 0: Carly Borders went 2-for-3 in the loss for the Knights, who outhit the Trojans 6-4.

Losing pitcher Kristina Gandy and Brooke Tracy both doubled for Grayslake North. Gandy struck out 6 batters.

Jacobs 7, Grayslake Central 0: Sarah Jacobson homered for the host Golden Eagles, and pitcher Kara Arceneaux fired a 2-hitter with 15 strikeouts.
