Colin Powell to speak at Illinois Holocaust Museum event

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is scheduled to speak at an event leading up to the opening of the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie.

Museum officials say Powell, along with Gov. Pat Quinn, will speak Thursday evening with local leaders and Holocaust survivors.

The 65,000 square-foot museum will include artifacts such as the original volume of the Nuremberg trial transcripts and almost 2,000 testimonies of Midwest Holocaust survivors.

The exhibits are designed to preserve personal belongings and educate people.

Officials say the museum will help Holocaust survivors heal.

Former President Bill Clinton is expected to give a keynote address at the museum's opening April 19.
