Protests sound like dirty tricks

As I see the current Republican organized protests against health care reform and the financial stimulus packages and the legitimacy of Obama's birth, I'm reminded of the Republican "dirty tricks" campaign of the Richard Nixon administration of the 1970s. It was the Haldemann, Erlichmann, Mitchell and Dean group, and the "dirty trick" specialists, Donald Segretti and Chuck Coulson and G. Gordon Liddy.

So, as I see it, it's not so much racism and bigotry - though there is that inside the protests, too. Imagine, portraying Obama, a black man, as a Nazi - Obama, the very symbol of the target of Nazi hate and genocide. But mostly it is political, and dirty and it goes beyond the Nixon administration's "dirty tricks" campaign.

And the irony is, the protesters - the troops doing the protesting, are the ones who would benefit most from the programs they are protesting against.

Go figure.
