Rolling Meadows workers charged with using customer's debit card

Two employees of McDonald's in Rolling Meadows have been charged with unlawful use of a credit card after going on a spending spree at Meijer with someone else's debit card, police said.

Agustin Hernandez, 22, of the 240 block of Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows, and Fernando Garcia, 20, of the 400 block of Perry Dr. in Elk Grove Village, were working at the McDonald's on the 3100 block of Kirchoff Road when a man came in Oct. 13, bought food with a debit card, and accidentally left it on the counter, Rolling Meadows police Sgt. Tony Gaspari said.

Gaspari said the customer noticed the card was gone Oct. 14, checked his account and noticed three unauthorized purchases totaling nearly $200 from a Meijer store the previous night, officials said.

Police contacted the store and were able to obtain a video security tape of the purchases. On the video, Hernandez and Garcia were seen making purchases with the card, Gaspari said.

Hernandez was being held in lieu of $5,000 bond, while Garcia was being held on a $3,000 bond, officials said. They're scheduled to appear in Rolling Meadows court Nov. 12.
